Saturday May 23, 2009W-Tennis' Marrit Boonstra Falls in NCAA Singles Quarterfinals

College Station, TX

UF’s Marrit Boonstra (Groningen, Netherlands) had her run at the NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championships end in the quarterfinal round on Saturday at the Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M.


The Gator junior dropped a hard-fought 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 decision to Miami’s Laura Vallverdu and concluded her stellar season with a 36-10 overall singles record.


As a result of reaching the quarterfinals, Boonstra earns All-America honors in singles. Last year, she earned All-America notice for her work on the doubles court, where this season she and Gator freshman Joanna Mather advanced to the round of 16.


The NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships is the final event on the collegiate schedule.
