Sunday April 19, 2009Women's Golf Concludes SEC Championship In Eighth Place

Blythewood, S.C.

For the second-straight day, the UF women’s golf team improved upon their previous round’s score and carded their best team score in the final round of the 2009 SEC Championship with a nine-over 293. The Lady Gators concluded the event with sole custody of eighth place with a 54-hole team score of 895 (307-295-293, +43).

“The team really had it going this morning,” said head coach Jill Briles-Hinton. “We just didn’t finish and bring it home. The squad got nervous coming in, but I am proud of their performance. They showed that they can do it.”

Just as they were all weekend, the squad was led by sophomore and team veteran Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.). The sophomore posted three solid rounds this weekend to finish in a tie for sixth. Yadloczky got off to a great start, making three consecutive birdies on her third through fifth holes of the afternoon. She entered the turn at one-under, but four bogeys on the back nine gave her a final round score of 74 (+3). Overall, she carded a 217 (72-71-74, +4).

“Jessica had another good performance,” Briles-Hinton continued. “It could have been a great round if she made a couple more putts. I know that she is disappointed with her finish, but she will come back strong in the next tournament.”

Freshman Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) matched her second round score with a one-over 72 on day three. Competing in her first SEC Championship, Jensen finished in 25th place with a total score of 223 (79-72-72, +10). She collected four birdies, five bogeys and nine pars in her final round.

Lauren Uzelatz (Lakeland, Fla.) was the most improved Lady Gator in the final round. The redshirt sophomore improved her previous round score by an impressive nine strokes for a day filled with career records. She shot a career-best 69 (-2) in her final round for another career best tournament total score of 225 (78-78-69, +12). She finished the tournament in a tie for 29th place.

“Lauren is very capable of shooting low numbers for us,” said Brile-Hinton. “She is a talented young lady who is just beginning to break through.”

Freshman Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) carded a seven-over 78 in her final round of play on Sunday. Watts got off to a rough start, collecting five consecutive bogeys on holes 12 through 16 to enter the turn at four-over. Three additional bogeys on the back nine sealed her score at 78 for a 54-hole score of 232 (79-75-78, +19) for a 43rd place finish.

Redshirt sophomore Nicole Schachner (Libertyville, Ill.) carded one birdie, nine pars, six bogeys and two double bogeys for a nine-over 80 in the third round. Her three-round score of 235 (78-77-80, +22) landed her in a tie for 47th place.

Auburn claimed the 2009 SEC Championship team title with a 54-hole team total of 870 (289-296-285, +18), eight strokes ahead of Arkansas and Alabama, who finished the event in a tie for second place with an 878. Tennessee (881, +34) and LSU (886, +34) rounded out the top five. Georgia’s Marta Silva took the individual crown with a total score of 210 (72-67-71, -3).

The Lady Gators look to continue post-season play at the NCAA Regionals. The University of Florida is one of three hosts for the event, joining Arizona State Univeristy and Ohio State University. NCAA Regionals are May 7-9. Live scoring can be found at www.GatorZone.com and www.GolfStat.com.
