Tuesday March 31, 2009Gator Football Urging UF Students to Test Their Speed in Fastest Gator Contest
The University of Florida Football team is gearing up for the 2009 Orange & Blue Debut on April 18. As part of a continuing effort by Urban Meyer to thank UF students for their incredible support, the team is hosting a contest in which University of Florida students can demonstrate their speed against members of the 2009 football squad.
The University of Florida Fastest Gator contest will allow contestants to test their speed against current UF football players. In addition to being UF students, contestants cannot be current or former student-athletes. Trials will be held at 4:30 p.m. on April 2 and April 9 on the Sanders Football Practice Field.
New to the event this year will be the addition of weight classes. Participants under 225 pounds will compete against each other, and students over 225 pounds will have the opportunity to race others in their own weight class.
Each participant will be timed twice in the 40-yard dash, with the top 10 fastest times each day advancing to the semi-finals on April 17. Participants may try out during both trials in an effort to advance. Semifinals for the event will be held on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. on Flavet Field. During the semi-finals, each participant will be timed twice in the 40-yard dash. The top five fastest times from each weight class will advance to the finals. The finals will take place on Florida Field prior to the Orange & Blue Debut on April 18.
Additional prizes will be handed out as part of the Fastest Student contest. The top five competitors in the contest will also receive Nike warm-ups, sneakers, a hat and t-shirt.
