The 13th-ranked University of Florida men's golf team is in eighth place after two rounds of the Southeastern Conference Championships being held at the Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club (par 72, 6,991 yards), while sophomore Camilo Benedetti (Medellin, Colombia/Instituto Jorge Robledo) is tied for 10th in the individual race.
Defending national champion Georgia sits atop the leaderboard with an 11-shot lead over 21st-ranked Auburn. The fifth-ranked Bulldogs have a two round total of 12-under-par 564.
The Gators, defending SEC Champions, fired a second round of 7-over-par 295 and have a two-day total of 26-over-par 602.
Benedetti, the defending individual medalist, fired an even-par 72 on the day and is eight-strokes off the lead at 2-over-par 146. Mississippi State's Alex Rocha is leading at 6-under-par 138.
Junior Nick Gilliam (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) also carded a 72 on the day and is tied for 27th at 7-over-par 151, while freshman Bubba Dickerson (Hilliard, Fla./West Nassau) is tied for 33rd at 8-over-par 152 after posting a 75. Junior Ben Banks (England/King Edwards) is tied for 37th at 9-over-par 153 after a round of 76, while sophomore Taylor Walsh (Napanoch, N.Y./Ellenville) also shot a 76 and is tied for 45th at 11-over-par 155.
"I am very disappointed in the way that we have performed so far," said Coach Buddy Alexander. "Hopefully tomorrow we can go out and have a good round and make up some ground."
The final round of the Championships will be contested Sunday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
