Sunday March 8, 2009Yadloczky In First, W-Golf in Ninth After First Round Of UCF Challenge

Sorrento, Fla.

Led by sophomore Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.), the UF women’s golf team is currently in ninth place after the day one of the UCF Challenge. The Lady Gators carded a 292 (+4) at the par-72, 6,356-yard RedTail Golf Course in Sorrento, Fla. UF faces a tough tournament field with seven teams currently ranked in the top-10.

“I’m really happy with today’s performance,” said head coach Jill Briles-Hinton. “The team is really starting to gel and we are performing much better.”

Yadloczky currently holds sole custody of first place, carding an impressive six-under 66 in her first round. The sophomore collected seven birdies, four of which were consecutive. She set season and career records for lowest round, just one shot under her previous career mark of 67 at the Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate in 2007.

“Jessica had a phenomenal round,” added Briles-Hinton. “She actually shot eight-under par, but was assessed a two-stroke penalty. So at one point, she actually held the course record.”

Redshirt sophomore Lauren Uzelatz (Lakeland, Fla.) and freshman Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) both carded a two-over 74 during day one, good for a tie for 40th. Uzelatz was even-par going into the 15th hole after carding two birdies and one double bogey previously, but carded bogeys on her 15th and 17th holes. Watts had a difficult start, making a double bogey on her first hole, but bounced back to collect three birdies, three bogeys and 11 pars.

Nicole Schachner (Libertyville, Ill.) is currently tied for 77th place after carding a 78 (+6) on Sunday. The sophomore collected three birdies, five bogeys, 11 pars and two double bogeys.

Freshman Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) had a tough day and will enter the second round in a tie for 80th place. She began the round with a bogey and collected two double bogeys in her first nine holes. She entered the turn at five-over and bogeys on her 10th and 15th holes gave her a first-round score of 79 (+7).

UCLA is currently on top of the team leaderboard with a 282 (-6) following the first round. Arizona State closely follows with a second-place team score of 284 (-4).

The field tees off tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET. Live scoring can be found at www.GatorZone.com and www.GolfStat.com.
