Thursday January 29, 2009UF Baseball To Open Team Practice On Sunday
Under the direction of second-year head coach Kevin O'Sullivan, the University of Florida baseball team will hold its first team practice and scrimmage on Sunday, Feb. 1, as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign. The full team workout is scheduled to start around 10 a.m. at McKethan Stadium and is open to the public. On Saturday, Feb. 14, there will be a "Meet the Team" autograph event held at 2 p.m. following the intra-squad scrimmage where the players will be on hand to sign the schedule poster.
"All of us are looking forward to having everyone on the field in one group," O'Sullivan said. "With our season opener just over three weeks away, the players have been working hard in the weight room and during individual workouts to get ready. We will have some very good intra-team competition that should allow us to be well prepared for the season opener."
The Gators will begin the 2009 regular season on Friday, Feb. 20, by hosting No. 8 Louisville at 6:30 p.m. O'Sullivan's squad returns a total of 17 players, including six position starters, four All-SEC recipients and seven pitchers who have lettered. Of the Orange and Blue's 14 newcomers, 11 are freshmen and were part of a recruiting class ranked fifth by Baseball America. UF was 34-24 overall last spring and advanced to NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2005.
