Florida combined strong pitching early in the game with timely hitting
late in the game to beat No. 25 Stetson 10-3 Wednesday night at McKethan
Stadium. The Gators are now unbeaten in their last eight games with a 27-
14-1 overall record.
The 1,218 fans on hand saw two very different games on the night. After
five innings the Gators had a 1-0 lead despite having no hits on the
scoreboard. UF then scored nine runs on seven hits in their final three at
bats to win the game convincingly. Stetson falls to 29-9 on the season.
Kenny Birch picked up the win for the Gators moving to 5-0 on the season.
Birch pitched three innings of relief giving up three hits and one run.
Gator starter Eddie Rojas and Joey Simon pitched the first five innings of
the game spreading out five hits without allowing a run.
No Gator batter had more than one hit. Jason Dill had the biggest hit on
the night with a two-run triple to center field in the sixth inning. Tim
Olson extended his hitting streak to 23 games with a solo homer to
leftfield to lead off the eighth. Tony Socarras extended his own hitting
streak to 13 games following Olson with a homer of his own over the right
Stetson reliever Andy Wilson took his first loss of the season falling to
3-1. Wilson pitched only 2/3 of an inning giving up five unearned runs.
The Gators resume play Friday night at 7 p.m. against SEC foe LSU. The
Tigers come into the weekend series with a 27-10 record, including a 10-4
mark in SEC play. LSU is in first place in the Western Division.
