Monday January 5, 2009Florida Finishes Three-Day Tennessee Dive Invite
Florida sophomore diver Monica Dodson (Franklin, Ind.) finished the Tennessee Diving Invite with a victory in the platform competition (309.20) Monday at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center, joining junior Kara Salamone (Hollywood, Fla.) as the two Gators with championship finishes in Knoxville. Monday marked the first platform competition of the season for the Orange and Blue and completed the three-day diving invitational for the 6th and 7th-ranked Florida squads.
Salamone, who captured the one-meter title Sunday and placed second in the three-meter competition Saturday, finished third on the platform (266.55) behind Dodson.
Whitney Stern (Safety Harbor, Fla.) additionally joined Dodson and Salamone as a top-10 finishers with a ninth place, 213.30-point finish, while freshman Kaylee Doback (Brandon, Fla.) and senior Jeana Bartell (Boca Raton, Fla.) placed 11th (211.85) and 16th (185.45), respectively.
On the menís side of the platform, freshman Anthony Lewark (Davie, Fla.) once again led the way for the Gators as UFís top finisher, recording 211.15 points, good for 18th place overall, while newcomer Colin Bell (Coral Springs, Fla.) placed 20th with a score of 207.50.
The UF divers will return to action Wednesday when they join both Gator swimming squads for a dual meet showdown with the 12th-ranked University of Virginia Cavalier menís and womenís teams. Meet time is slated for 7 p.m. from the OíConnell Center and admission is free.
