University of Florida junior quarterback Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.) headlined the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Football Team announced on Wednesday by being named the Academic All-America of the Year winner for the second-straight time. Tebow joined UF basketball standout Matt Bonner (2002, 2003) and fellow Heisman Trophy recipient Danny Wuerffel (1995, 1996) as the only individuals in school history to capture his sport's Academic All-America of the Year award twice. In addition, he collected the 100th Academic All-America honor for the school, as a total of 75 Florida student-athletes have combined to hit the century mark.

Tebow is majoring in Family, Youth and Community Services and has a 3.70 grade point average. As a sophomore, he was honored as the winner of the Heisman Trophy, the Davey O'Brien Award and the Maxwell Award. A first-team All-American quarterback, Tebow passed for 3,286 yards and threw 32 touchdown passes last season. He also set an NCAA record by rushing for 23 touchdowns.

In 2008, he has led the Gators to a 10-1 record and a number two national ranking. A candidate to win a second-consecutive Heisman Trophy, he has passed for 2,114 yards and 22 touchdowns. In his career, he has thrown 59 touchdown passes and scored 42 rushing touchdowns.

Tebow became just the fourth UF football player to achieve Academic All-America recognition in consecutive seasons (Carlos Alvarez, 1969-71; Michael Gilmore, 1993-94; Wuerffel, 1995-96). Florida will meet Florida State on Saturday afternoon in Tallahassee to complete its regular season. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. and the contest will be carried live on ABC Sports.
