Tuesday November 4, 2008Women's Golf Concludes Hooters Match Play Championships, Fall Season
The University of Florida women’s golf team hit the links for the final time this fall for the third round of the Hooters Match Play Championships in Orlando Fla. on Tuesday. The Lady Gators dropped their third and final round on the Independence Course at the Ginn Reunion Resort to No. 16 seed Tulsa in a tight match, 3-1-1. With the loss, Florida concluded the event with a 16th place finish.
Freshman Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) claimed the sole victory for the Lady Gators in the final round, edging out Shu-Yin Liu, 1-up. The pair was all-square up until the final hole when Jensen out shot her opponent by one stroke. She owned a 2-1 match play record at the event.
Freshman Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) and Tulsa’s Woori Shin halved their match. Watts was 1-1-1 for the event. Redshirt sophomores Nicole Schachner and Lauren Uzelatz (Lakeland, Fla.) fell to their opponents, Abby Alford and Kamryn Ruffin, 6 and 4 and 4 and 3, respectively. Redshirt junior Brittany Nelson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) also dropped her match to Marita Engzelius, 3 and 2.
The Lady Gators will return to action on February 9-11, 2009 when they begin their winter season in Palos Verdes, Ca. for the Regional Challenge.
