Florida hit Samford all over the ballpark as the Gators beat the Bulldogs
16-8 Tuesday night at McKethan Stadium.
Florida (19-13) pounded out 22 hits as a team and four Gator
batters had at least three hits. Aaron Sobieraj led the attack with five
hits in five at-bats while playing third base, before coming in to pitch
the final two innings. For the second time this season Sobieraj’s five
hits tied the single game UF record.
Gator starter Joey Simon went seven innings to pick up the
victory. Simon moves to 4-2 on the season, while Samford (12-15) starter
Beau Anderson took the loss falling to 2-4.
Gator leadoff batter Mark Kiger went 3-for-3 and had three RBI and
three runs scored. Kiger walked to start off the game and scored to give
the Gators the lead in the first inning. The Gators never trailed the rest
of the night.
Other hot Gator batters on the night were Kurt Keene and Tim Olson. Keene
went 3-for-6 with 2 RBI and two runs. Olson was 3-for-5 with one RBI and
three runs.
