The 18th-ranked University of Florida men's golf team is in third place after two rounds of the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational at the Forest Heights Country Club.
The Gators shot a two-round total of 15-under par 561 and stand 17 shots behind leader Georgia, which fired a 32-under par 544. North Carolina State is in second place, two shots ahead of Florida, at 17-under par 559. The field includes eight other Top 25 teams in the 15-team field.
Sophomore Taylor Walsh (Napanoch, N.Y./Ellenville) stands tied for fifth place at six-under par 138, five shots behind the individual leader, Bubba Watson of Georgia (11-under par 133). The Bulldogs have three of the top four players on the scoreboard heading into the final round. Sophomore Camilo Benedetti (Medellin, Colombia/Instituto Jorge Robledo) posted a four-under par 140 to stand tied for 11th, while freshman Bubba Dickerson (Hilliard, Fla./West Nassau) is tied for 18th at two-under 142. Junior Ben Banks (England/King Edwards School) is one shot behind at one-under par 143 and is tied for 24th, while junior Nick Gilliam (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) fired an even-par 144, leaving him tied for 32nd.
The Gators are competing in the tournament for the 15th time, with 10 previous top-five finishes. Last year Steve Scott was the individual medalist while the Gators finished fourth. The tournament, which is at the par-72, 6,848-yard course, concludes with the final round Sunday.
