Tuesday May 27, 2008Florida Ranked No. 5 in Final ITA Poll, Six Gators Earn Final Singles Ranking

The University of Florida is ranked No. 5 in the final 2007-08 listing produced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, which also featured six Gators ranked in the final singles poll in addition to one doubles team.


The Gator's No. 5 team ranking marks the program's 21st top-5 final ranking in the last 22 years, while it also is Florida's 27th top-10 final finish in the 29-year history of the rankings.


Individually, all six Gators who comprised the season-ending dual match lineup earned a spot in the final singles ranking of the 2007-08 season. The Gators earning a final ranking included: Julia Cohen (No. 32), Csilla Borsanyi (No. 36), Anastasia Revzina (No. 90), Marrit Boonstra (No. 91), Megan Alexander (No. 95) and Whitney Benik (No. 124).


On the doubles court, the Gator tandem of Alexander and Boonstra finished the season as the No. 12-ranked pair in the country, earning All-America honors, as well.


This is the third time during head coach Roland Thornqvist's seven-year tenure that six Gators have appeared in the final ITA singles ranking, with the 2003 and 2004 teams also sporting six players in the chart.
