The 24th-ranked Florida Gator softball team lost both ends of a
doubleheader 4-0 and 6-3 to No. 9 Louisiana State Friday night at Tiger
Park.
UF fell to 28-14 overall and 2-4 in the Southeastern Conference, and LSU
improved to 25-7 and 5-1 in the SEC.
The Gators struck first in the nightcap. Shortstop Jenn Mossadeghi
(Jupiter, Fla./The King’s Academy) scored from second base on an Ashley
Boone (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) sacrifice fly to center field. Junior
Emily Marino (Joliet, Ill./Joliet) smacked her 10th home run of the year
for a 2-0 UF lead in the third inning. But, LSU came right back with a
three-run homer by third baseman Ashlee Ducote. It was her sixth this
season.
UF tied it at three apiece in the sixth. Pinch running for Marino, who led
off with a walk, freshman Jenn Brown (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore) scored
on a single by Andrea Zimbardi (Green, Ohio/Green). The Tigers pulled
ahead with a three-run sixth inning and shut down the Gators’ scoring
threat in the seventh. Nicole Kreipl (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington
Beach) led off with her second single of the game, and Prissie Walden
(Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) walked. The Tigers turned a double play
and forced a ground out to seal the win.
Renise Landry (West Monroe, La./West Monroe) tossed two and two-thirds
innings and re-entered in the sixth to face two batters, and took the
loss. The junior fell to 11-8 and allowed three runs on three hits, three
walks, and sat down three batters in order in the second frame. LSU’s
Britni Sneed improved to 9-5 with the win. Sneed allowed eight hits and
struck out eight in seven innings.
In Game 1, UF thwarted an LSU scoring threat in the second frame. The
Tigers loaded the bases with two outs on two base hits and a walk. Second
baseman Jenn Cordero (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) tagged a
runner en route to second on a force play to get UF out of the inning.
But, UF couldn’t hold off LSU much longer. The Tigers first scored on
third baseman Ashely Ducote’s solo home run in the third inning. They
added three more runs in the fifth on four hits and two Gator errors.
Ashley Boone (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) led off the seventh to break up
Tiger hurler Ashley Lewis’ no-hitter with a single through the left side.
Senior Beth Dieter (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) took the loss. She had one
strikeout in six innings and gave up nine hits, four runs and a walk.
Dieter is 13-3 on the year. Lewis improved to 8-2. She allowed just one
hit, walked four and struck out seven batters in as many innings.
UF will play at Arkansas Saturday at 6 p.m. The Sunshine Network will
broadcast the twinbill on tape delay at 7:30 p.m.
