BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C.

The fifth-ranked University of Florida women’s golf team opened the 11th annual Bryan Park National Collegiate in second place with a 10-over-par score of 298 on Friday.

The Lady Gators trail top-ranked Duke by four strokes for the lead. The Blue Devils fired a 6-over 294 on Friday. North Carolina is in third at 12-over 300, and Auburn and Furman are tied for fourth place at 13-over 301.

The par-72 Bryan Park Players Course served as a tough venue in the tournament’s opening day as the average score was 78.22. The course is playing host to the event for only the second time in 11 years.

Redshirt junior Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France) posted her second straight even-par first-round 72 to place in the top 10. Jouven’s 2-under start through seven holes led the junior to sole possession of sixth place. Jouven, who began her round on hole 16, closed with a birdie three on the par-4 15th.

College of Charleston’s Steffi Kirchmayr holds a one-shot lead following a first-round 69 (-3). Three players are tied for second and are one stroke back at 2-under.

Freshmen Hannah Yun (Bradenton, Fla.) and Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) are in a tie for 11th place following rounds of 2-over 74. Yun opened with a birdie and gave a stroke back on the par-4 18th. The freshman then carded an eagle on the par-5 second hole. Yadloczky’s round was highlighted by birdies on the par-5 second and par-4 ninth.

Senior Tiffany Chudy (Miramar, Fla.) and redshirt freshman Nicole Schachner (Libertyville, Ill.) opened with 6-over 78s and are tied for 42nd place. Chudy recorded seven bogeys and added a birdie on the par-5 second. Schachner, playing as an individual, tallied four birdies in her round.

Senior Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Pa.) is in a tie for 55th place following a first-round 79. Myers is tied with nine other players.

Saturday’s second round gets underway at 10 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
