Tuesday March 11, 2008No. 5 Women's Golf Claims Fourth at UCF Challenge

Sorrento, Fla. – The fifth-ranked Florida women’s golf team culminated a three-day stretch against the nation’s top competition with a fourth-place finish at the UCF Challenge to benefit the Florida Children’s Hospital Tuesday. Duke posted the 18-team field’s best score for the second day in a row, taking team and medalist honors, courtesy of Blue Devils’ sophomore Alison Whitaker’s three-round score of 208 (-8).

Whitaker received an exemption to the Ginn Tribute Hosted by ANNIKA May 29-June 1 in Charleston S.C.

“I’m proud of the team because they showed they deserved to play in the group that was there,” head coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. “Whitney (Myers) wasn’t feeling well but she fought hard today and finished at 3-over. Tiffany (Chudy) stayed strong and Ornella (Jouven) came back from a tough first round and that takes a lot of mental toughness. It was a great experience to play with Duke because every experience we have from here on out will prepare us for the NCAA Championships.”

The Lady Gators fired a 289 in the final round to finish at 1-over in the tournament as freshman Hannah Yun (Bradenton, Fla.) and redshirt junior Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France) finished their last rounds under par.

Yun and freshman Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) tied for UF’s best finish, tying for 14th. For the freshmen pair it marked another stellar performance this spring, and they placed higher than many All-Americans in the process.

Yun improved her score all three rounds, finding red numbers on the last day with a career-low tying effort of 71 for the third time this year (-1).

“I felt like I played better than I scored the first two days,” Yun said after completing her third career tournament. “I kept telling myself I need that one little extra push and I felt like I was cruising along the whole weekend but today was more motivation to get it under par.”

Yadloczky racked up another impressive finish and hasn’t finished lower than 18th in her seven events this year. Senior Tiffany Chudy (Miramar, Fla.) finished 1-over par in another strong performance, netting a tie for 18th. Senior Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Pa.) closed out with a 75 and tied for 31st.

Jouven carded two birdies on the front nine, which set the pace for a season-low round with a 1-under par 71.

Senior Eleanor Tucker (Wilson, N.C.) equaled her first-round score of 79 and will take part in the Gainesville Shootout on Thursday.

The lineup from the UCF Challenge will enjoy a period of rest before packing for Austin, Texas, and the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational hosted by the University of Texas March 17-19.
