Florida used a combination of timely hitting and pitching to take a 6-4
victory over Fordham University Tuesday night at McKethan Stadium. Florida
improved to 13-11 on the season.
Joey Simon and Craig Mosher combined to strikeout 13 Ram batters, while
leaving 13 Fordham runners stranded including two in the final inning.
Simon (2-2) went five innnings in his first career start, allowing three
runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Mosher pitched the final four
innings to earn his first save of the season, striking out a career-high
seven batters.
UF jumped on Fordham (2-5) for three runs in the first inning, building 4-
1 and 6-3 leads while never trailing in the contest. Peter Nystrom’s
single to center brought Matt Siegel in to score for the first Gator run.
Nystrom later had a double and a triple, scoring on his last two hits.
Fordham starter Bryan Kelly fell to 0-1 on the season, giving up four runs
on six hits.
Fordham pushed across a single run in the ninth inning off Mosher to pull
within 6-4 with runners on first and second. But, Mosher got the ground
ball double play to end the game.
Florida benefitted from a pair of runs that scored on balks by Fordham
pitchers.
The Gators and Rams will meet again tommorow at 7 pm.
