Sunday March 12, 2000Men's Golf Finishes 12th at Las Vegas Intercoll.

LAS VEGAS, Nev.

The 17th-ranked University of Florida men's golf team finished 12th at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate Sunday after firing a final round of 5-over-par 293.

The Gators finished with a three-round total of 10-over-par 874 in their toughest field of the regular season, which featured 11 top 25 teams in the 14-team field. Fifth-ranked Arizona State won the tournament at 16-under-par 848 after a two-hole playoff with No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 40 Minnesota.

Sophomore Camilo Benedetti (Medellin, Colombia/Instituto Jorge Robledo), who is ranked 22nd in the country, tied for 23rd in the individual race after a final round of 2-over-par 74. He finished at even-par 216 for the tournament. Junior Ben Banks (England/King Edwards School) tied for 46th, carding a 78 on the day for a total of 4-over-par 220. Junior Nick Gilliam (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) fired a round of 70 to tie for 52nd at 5-over-par 221. Freshman Bubba Dickerson (Hilliard, Fla./West Nassau) carded a 74 to finish at 6-over-par 222 and tie for 55th. Sophomore Taylor Walsh (Napanoch, N.Y./Ellenville) rounded out the Gators' playing five and shot a 75 for a three-day total of 13-over-par 229.

The tournament was held at the par 72, 7,193-yard layout at Desert Inn Country Club.

The Gators will be back in action March 25-26 at the Chris Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
