Saturday March 11, 2000Men's Golf Team Tied for 11th at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev.

The 17th-ranked University of Florida men's golf team is tied for 11th place Saturday after two rounds of the Las Vegas Intercollegiate.

The Gators shot a round of 5-over-par 293 on the day for a two round total of 5-over-par 581 on the par 72, 7,193-yard layout of the Desert Inn Country Club. Sixth-ranked Oklahoma State leads the tournament at 19-under-par 557 and has a five-stroke lead over top-ranked Georgia Tech and No. 28 Texas. Eleven of the 14 teams in the field are ranked in the top 25 and the event is the Gators' toughest during the regular season.

Sophomore Camilo Benedetti (Medellin, Colombia/Instituto Jorge Robledo), who is ranked 22nd in the country, and junior Ben Banks (England/King Edwards) are tied for 16th at 2-under-par 142. Benedetti fired a round of 71 on the day while Banks carded a 72. Freshman Bubba Dickerson (Hilliard, Fla./West Nassau) is tied for 49th at 4-over-par 148 after a round of 76 while junior Nick Gilliam (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) sits at 7-over-par 151 after posting a 74 for the day to tie for 64th. Sophomore Taylor Walsh (Napanoch, N.Y./Ellenville) is tied for 71st at 10-over-par 154 and shot 79 on the day.

Final round action will conclude on Sunday.
