Florida got a win back from Utah in National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic silver consolation bracket, but fell to No. 15 Louisiana-Layfayette 3-2 in the finals at the South Commons Stadium Sunday afternoon. Florida (16-7) defeated Utah, which edged by the Gators 1-0 in pool play March 3, earlier in the day to advance to the finals.Jenn Mossadeghi (Jupiter, Fla./The King’s Academy) hit her first career home run against Louisiana-Lafayette to tie the score at two each. The shortstop became the first Florida freshman to hit an out-of-the-park round tripper.Lora Pinkerton (Phoenix, Ariz./Moon Valley) scored on a wild pitch in the first inning after leading off with a single, but the Lady Cajuns scored in the second frame and went ahead by one in their half of the fourth inning. The Lady Cajuns (13-3) were the 1999 Gold Bracket Champions.Freshman Nicole Michael (Phoenix, Ariz./Greenway) went six innings, yielding three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks. Michael recorded three strikeouts and fell to 3-2 on the year.Against Utah (10-10), Florida scored first as Mossadeghi drove in junior Ashley Boone (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) on one of her two base hits in the game. Boone reached on a leadoff single and scored from second after advancing on an Andrea Zimbardi (Green, Ohio/Green) sacrifice bunt. The Gators put up three runs in the fourth inning. Jenn Cordero (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) singled to score Mossadeghi. Pinkerton plated Cordero on her second career home run in as many days.Junior Renise Landry (West Monroe, La./West Monroe) came in relief for senior Beth Dieter (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Philips) after two and two-thirds and received the win. Landry (7-4) recorded 10 strikeouts through four and a third innings and only allowed one run, a solo shot, on four hits. Dieter (6-1) struck out two batters and gave up one run on three hits and a walk.Florida plays host to Siena on March 7th at 4 p.m.
