Florida pitchers Alex Hart and Jeff Cardozo combined to hold Massachusetts
to five hits and got strong run support as Florida took the second game
of the series 7-1 Saturday at McKethan Stadium. Florida (9-8) won for the
second consecutive game, while the Minutemen dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Hart allowed the only UMass run on two hits with three walks and two
strikeouts, while Cardozo (1-0) held Massachusetts in check with five
scoreless innings out of the bullpen for his first win of the season.
Jesse Santos (0-1) took the loss for UMass, allowing just two runs (one
earned) on four hits over five innings.
Mark Kiger had two hits for Florida among seven players with at least one
hit on the day. DH Aaron Davidson provided a big hit with single with the
bases loaded in the sixth inning. Matt Goss followed with a double to add
two additional runs. Kurt Keene’s sacrifice fly completed the scoring with
a sacrifice fly.
UMass took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a run-scoring single by Gavin
Clark off Hart, scoring Aaron Senez. The Gators tied the game in the
bottom of the inning with an unearned run. The Gators took the lead for
good in the fourth with a single by Kiger, scoring Tony Socarras who had
doubled with two outs.
