Orlando, Fla. – The Florida women’s golf team was eliminated from championship contention as it fell to Georgia in the semifinals, 3-1-1, Monday at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship. The Lady Gators will face fifth-seeded Tennessee tomorrow in the third-place match. The Lady Vols fell victim to No. 1 seed Duke in their semifinal bout.

Redshirt sophomore Brittany Nelson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) claimed her second victory of the tournament, routing Georgia’s Alina Lee, 6 and 4. Nelson had control in 13 of the 14 holes she played before finishing off Lee with a six-hole lead on the 12th hole.

Senior Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) salvaged a tough semifinal battle between Krystle Caithness as she was able to halve the match. Gal was trailing by one hole through the duration of the matchup but made up two holes in as many attempts down the stretch to pull all square.

Eleanor Tucker (Wilson, N.C.) made her first appearance in the event, falling just short to Mallory Hetzel. Tucker and Hetzel were tied with four holes remaining but Hetzel went ahead on hole 14 and prevailed 1 up on the UF senior.
