Friday October 26, 2007Women's Golf Closes Out First Round of Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The fifth-ranked Florida women’s golf team concluded first-round action at the Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate hosted by Alabama Friday. The Lady Gators tallied a 307, their first round over 300 on the season, and are sitting in a 10th-place tie with Texas out of 18 schools. Arkansas got the best of the challenging Northriver Golf Club Friday, taking an early two-stroke lead over Louisville with an 11-over par 295.

It was an uncharacteristic day for Florida, among other teams, as it sat in the bottom half of the first-day standings. Bogeys were a common theme across the board and all players had to fight to salvage par throughout the day.

Senior Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Pa.) keyed Florida’s first-round effort with a 2-over par 73. With only three players scoring rounds under par, Myers put herself in position for another high finish as she ended the day tied for 10th.

Senior Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) carded back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth holes and totaled a 75 in her first round. Gal, who won medalist honors at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic, is tied for 19th.

True freshman Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) concluded her first round of play with a 78 on the scorecard. She totaled two birdies on the day in her first nine holes and is locked for 48th.

Tiffany Chudy (Miramar, Fla.) and Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France) both recorded an 81 in first-round action. The senior Chudy mixed in a birdie and a par on the front nine but ended the first half with five consecutive bogeys. Jouven had two birdies competing in her third event of the year and the pair are tied for 76th.

Redshirt sophomore Brittany Nelson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) opened up the event with a birdie and closed strong with two birdies in the last four holes for a first-round mark of 79. Nelson, competing as an individual, managed a four-par streak on the front nine but ran into trouble with three double-bogeys in four holes. She is tied for 53rd with 11 others.

Second-round action begins 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Live scoring can be followed courtesy of www.golfstat.com.
