Monday October 1, 2007Women's Golf Runner-Up at Wildcat Fall Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sparked by three top-10 finishes, the fifth-ranked Florida women’s golf team closed out the Wildcat Fall Invitational Monday, claiming runner-up honors in the 14-team field. The Lady Gators fired a 298 in the final round, their sixth-consecutive round under 300 since the beginning of the season.

Senior Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Pa.), redshirt junior Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France) and true freshman Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) turned in solid performances that landed them in the top 10.

Myers, who ended second-round play with a one-stroke lead in the medalist race, finished fifth. Myers tied her career-best round in the first round for the third time in her career and shattered that mark the following day, tying the school record for the sixth time in UF history with a 5-under par 67.

Equaling her second-round tally in the final round, Jouven marched up the leaderboard for an eighth-place finish. Jouven shot back-to-back rounds of a 2-over par 74 to finish with a tournament total of 223 in her first event of the season.

Carding a top-10 finish in just her second career tournament, Yadloczky fired another even-or-under par round, her third in six attempts. The freshman was coming off an 18th-place performance at the season-opening Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship.

Following suit and narrowly missing a top-10 finish was senior Tiffany Chudy (Miramar, Fla.), as she surged near the top of the leaderboard, tying with four others to tie for 11th. Chudy scored a 2-over par 74 and moved up from 17th after second-round action.

Eleanor Tucker (Wilson, N.C.) improved her score for the third-straight round, closing out the final round with a 78. Brittany Nelson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.), a redshirt sophomore making her first appearance of the season competing individually, also dropped strokes off her score for the third-consecutive round, wrapping up with an impressive 1-over par 73. Nelson bounced back from 40th to wind up in a tie for 23rd and Tucker placed in a tie for 48th.

Florida swings back into Tennessee Oct. 12-14 in Knoxville for the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic. UF finished seventh last season led by Jouven’s ninth-place performance.
