Sunday September 30, 2007Myers Ties UF's Lowest Round to Lead Women's Golf at Wildcat Fall Invite

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Pa.) tied the school’s lowest round and eclipsed her personal best single-round score by three strokes with a 5-under par 67 to lead the fifth-ranked Florida women’s golf team on the second day of the Wildcat Fall Invitational Sunday. Myers is in the lead for medalist honors and the Lady Gators subtracted three shots from their first-day total with a 292.

UF was able to shoot a 4-over par second-round tally of 292 to put Alabama within five strokes of striking distance. Four Lady Gators were able to improve on their first-day totals. The school record has been set six times since 1982 when Deb Richard fired a 67 in the second round of the SEC Championship.

Myers’ record-tying round came after she equaled her previous best round of 70 in Saturday’s action for the third time in her career. The senior started out strong with four birdies on the front nine and had six birdies on the day. She recorded consecutive birdies on two occasions on the front nine. Myers has a one-stroke margin over first-day leader Courtney Harter of Alabama.

Tiffany Chudy (Miramar, Fla.) dropped five strokes from her first-day total of 78 to finish 1-over par with a 73. Chudy was one-under on the front nine with back-to-back birdies on holes three and four. The senior helped herself in the standings, making the leap from a tie in 38th up to a tie for 17th.

Also finishing strong was redshirt junior Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France). Jouven had an adventurous back nine holes with four bogeys that was countered by an eagle on 16 and a birdie on 17. Jouven, competing in her first tournament of the year, is tied for 11th.

True freshman Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) tallied a 78 in second-round action and sits in a tie for 15th. Yadloczky was tied for seventh at the conclusion of Saturday’s round.

Senior Eleanor Tucker (Wilson, N.C.) carded back-to-back birdies on the back nine holes as she finished with a round of 79. Tucker was able to cut three strokes from Saturday’s score.

Even though her score does not count toward the team score, Brittany Nelson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.), made proper adjustments to improve her first-round score by six strokes to finish with a 75. Nelson is sitting in 40th after ending Saturday in 52nd.

Final-round action begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. Live stats can be followed courtesy of www.golfstat.com
