Friday February 25, 2000Softball Seniors Hit Three Home Runs In Split

LAS CRUCES, N.M.

Florida’s two senior outfielder’s combined for three home runs as Florida split two games in the first day of the Troy Cox Roadrunner Classic at New Mexico State. Jen Lutsi (Naples, Fla./Baron Collier) smacked one in Florida’s 6-1, eight- inning loss to No. 8 Cal The center fielder hit her second on the year, and left fielder Nicole Kreipl (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) hit her first career homer as the Gators beat Oregon 5-2. Lutsi finished the day 3-for-7 with three runs and three RBI. Florida (12-2) scored first on Lutsi’s homer against Cal (15-0), and took the Bears to eight innings in a one-run tie. But, the Gators gave up five in the top of the eighth on a three-run home run, two errors and a wild pitch. Junior Renise Landry (West Monroe, La./West Monroe) took her first loss of the year. Landry (6-1) only gave up three hits, one earned run and four walks as she fanned six batters in eight innings. The Gators quickly turned it around against the Ducks (7-4). They scored three in the fourth inning off of Lutsi and Kreipl, and two in the sixth. Freshman Prissie Walden (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) drove in the final two runs on a single. Senior Beth Dieter (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Philips) recorded the win. Dieter (4- 1) yielded six hits, two runs and a walk, and struck out nine batters in seven innings. Florida will play Wichita State and host New Mexico State Saturday at Noon and 2 p.m., respectively.
