CORAL GABLES, Fla. -

Fourth-ranked Miami hit five home runs among 19 hits to hand 18th-ranked Florida a 16-8 loss at Mark Light Stadium in front of 3,633 fans Friday night. It was the ninth consecutive loss for the Gators at Mark Light Stadium, dropping Florida to 3-1 on the season. Miami improved to 3-2 on the year.

Right fielder Manny Crespo led the Hurricane attack with a 3-for-3 performance with five RBI and four runs scored highlighted by a pair of home runs. UM shortstop Javy Rodriguez also had three hits for the Hurricanes, while Lale Esquival and Mike DiRosa had two hits each.

Mark Kiger(pictured)led Florida with three hits on the night and scored three runs.

The Hurricanes benefited from four walks in the first inning from UF starter Jimmy Ramshaw (0-1), who allowed five runs over three innings. UM’s three first inning runs would only be the beginning for the struggles of the Florida pitching staff. The Hurricanes scored in seven of eight innings on the night after entering the game of two-game scoreless streak.

Greg Howell (1-0) got the win in relief for the Hurricanes, allowing two runs on five hits over three innings of relief for starter David Gil. Chris Sheffield pitched the final two innings for the ‘Canes.

UF shortstop Tim Olson and head coach Andy Lopez were ejected in the ninth inning with UM catcher Greg Lovelady and UM head coach Jim Morris. The ejections came after Olson was hit in the head with a pitch from Sheffield to lead off the inning.
