Sunday December 17, 2006Donovan Ties Florida's All-Time Career Wins with 72-57 Victory Over FAMU

Tampa, FL

Senior guard Lee Humphrey (Maryville, Tenn.) scored 15 points and guards Walter Hodge (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Taurean Green (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) had 11 apiece Sunday night, helping head coach Billy Donovan tie Norm Sloan as Florida's career victory leader with a 72-57 win over Florida A&M.

Sloan won 235 games in 15 seasons served over two stints in which he raised expectations for the basketball program at the Southeastern Conference school. Donovan is 235-100 in his 11th season with the defending national champions.

Joakim Noah (New York, N.Y.) had a dominating performance despite only taking five shots and finishing with seven points, 17 rebounds and six blocks for No. 5 Florida (9-2), which relied on the outside shooting of Humphrey, Hodge and Dan Werner (Middletown, N.J.) to build a 17-point halftime.

Florida played without leading scorer and rebounder Al Horford (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic), who sat out the game because of a high ankle sprain.

Corey Brewer (Portland, Tenn.) returned for Florida after missing the previous three games with mononucleosis. He had three points and four rebounds in 11 minutes, while Chris Richard (Lakeland, Fla.) had six points and four rebounds filling in for Horford.

Leslie Robinson had 11 points and Brian Greene added 10 for Florida A&M (5-6), which had won four straight after 1-5 start that included losses to Maryland, Illinois, Miami and Bradley.

The Gators have one more tuneup, Wednesday night at home against Stetson, before Saturday’s highly anticipated home matchup against No. 4 Ohio State.
