ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -

Stacy Bishop scored twice to give UF a 2-0 SEC Tournament semifinal win over South Carolina.

Two goals from junior Stacy Bishop gave the No. 16 University of Florida soccer team (13-4-4, 7-1-3 SEC) a 2-0 win over South Carolina (12-6-4, 5-2-4 SEC) in Friday’s semifinal round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament held in front of a Orange Beach SportPlex crowd of 511.

Florida will face Kentucky is Sunday’s final. This will be Florida’s 10th appearance in the SEC Tournament final in the program’s 12-year history. Florida’s won seven tournament titles (1996, ’97, ’98, ’99, 2000, ’01 and ’04).

Kentucky advanced to the SEC final with a 2-0 win over Tennessee in Friday’s first semifinal. This is the second SEC final for the Kats and the first since they won it in 1995. UK is unbeaten in its last six matches and has won its last four. Sunday’s match is the first time since 1999 that the tournament’s top two seeded teams will meet in the final.

Florida scored first to take a 1-0 halftime lead. The Gators were awarded a free kick above the middle of the box. Stacy Bishop and KeLeigh Hudson stood over the ball while the both sides set up, but it was Bishop who took the shot in the 35th minute. Her 30-yard strike went into the upper corner of the far post.

“KeLeigh pointed out where the keeper was and then I just hit it,” Bishop said.

Bishop would score again at 78:13 thanks to the assist from Shana Hudson. Hudson made her way to the end line, fending off a pair of USC defenders. Her cross found Bishop in stride, who was able to score from six yards at the far post. The two-goal match gives Bishop 10 goals, as she moves into the Florida season goals lead. It was Bishop’s second multi-goal match of the season; her first coming Sept. 10 with a three-goal effort versus Jacksonville.

“That (goal) was all Shana. She played the ball in and Megan (Kerns) got there to deflect it and all I had to do was put it in,” Bishop said. “But Shana definitely worked her butt off to get it across.”

UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh was pleased with her team’s effort Friday against a tough defensive USC squad and is glad to be back in the SEC Tournament championship match after missing last year’s final.

“It was good to score two goals against Carolina because they’re a tough team to play against because they are very compact defensively and they put a lot of numbers behind the ball,” Burleigh said. “So to get two goals is a good thing and to get the shutout was great.

“We are definitely glad to be back in the final,” she continued. “We are excited to face Kentucky who we felt like we didn’t play that well against the first time around so it will be good to get a second chance.”

Friday’s win is the seventh shutout for UF this season and the sixth solo shutout for UF goalkeeper Brittni Goodwin.

Next up, Florida heads to Sunday’s final. The Florida-Kentucky match time is set for 3:30 p.m. (ET) and can be seen live on Cox Cable channel 15 on Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable. The match can also be heard on www.GatorZone.com.
