The Gators were held to just 38 percent shooting from the floor and made just 7- of-33 three-pointers.
"We never really got into the flow of the game, offensively", said Gator coach Billy Donovan. "I thought our guys were not very patient at all and that really hurt us".
Florida went on a 14-0 run in the second half to go ahead 58-51, but couldn't hold the lead. UF Sophomore guard Teddy Dupay, who scored nine points, had a chance to salt the game away in the final seconds of regulation, but missed two free throws. Tennessee's Isaiah Victor, who led all scorers with 22 points, made the basket that tied the game up at 66-66 with less than a second to play to send the game into overtime.
UF freshman forward Donnell Harvey, who scored a team- high 19 points, scored all of the Gators' five points in the first overtime period that was at 71.
UF junior forward Brent Wright made a big three-pointer to tie the game at 79 in the second overtime, but the Volunteers made a couple of clutch free throws to win the game.
Freshman guard Brett Nelson had a chance to put Florida ahead, but he missed a long three-point shot with six seconds to go in the second overtime period.
The loss brought Florida's 11-game home winning streak to an end. The Gators are now 13-3 overall and 2-2 in SEC play. Tennessee improves to 16-2 and 4-1 in the SEC.
The Gators will face Alabama on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, ALa. Tip-off is schuduled for 8:00 EST.
