Gainesville, FL

The eighth-ranked University of Florida men's basketball team connected on a season-high 12 three-pointers en route to an 80-53 win over North Carolina Wilmington on Thursday evening at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

Sophomore Mike Miller and senior Kenyan Weaks combined for seven three-pointers and 40 points as the Gators won their seventh straight game. Weaks reached the 1,000- point plateau for his career on a second half dunk.

Sophomore Teddy Dupay and freshman Justin Hamilton chipped in with nine points apiece.

The Gators stretched a five-point halftime lead to 15 with a 12- 2 run to begin the second half.

The Seahawks, who have limited opponents to just 56 points a game, gave up nearly that much to the Gators in the second half.

"We had a difficult time getting the tempo in the first half in our favor", said Gator coach Billy Donovan. "Our guys hung together. I think our depth wore them down in time". The Gators held UNC Wilmington to just 32 percent shooting in the second half. Donovan liked the unselfish play of his team.

Florida becomes only the fifth team in school history to begin a season with a 9-1 record.

The Gators will return to action on Tuesday, when they battle VMI at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Tip-off will be at 12 Noon.
