East Rutheford, NJ

The eighth-ranked Florida men's basketball team used a 26-7 second half run to beat Rutgers 85- 65 in the second game of the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday evening at the Continental Airlines Arena.

Senior Kenyan Weaks (pictured left) and sophomore Mike Miller led six Gator players in double figures with 16 points. Junior Brent Wright came off the bench to score 14 points and grab a team-high seven rebounds. Wright was flawless at the charity stripe, hitting all eight of his sthots. Freshman Donnell Harvey scored 12 points while sophomore Teddy Dupay added 11 and sophomore Udonis Haslem 10.

The Gators had a 38-28 halftime lead before salting the game away with a great second half start.

"They (Rutgers) had three, four guys up around 16,17,19 minutes in the first half", said Gator coach Billy Donovan in his post-game radio interview. "I thought it was important to start the second half, pressing them and not fouling. We obviously got off to a good start. We pushed the lead out to 28 points, and from there really played pretty well."

Florida turned the ball over just 10 times and shot 51 percent from the field. As for the significance of the victory, Donovan said, "Coming off a poor performance on national television against Purdue, people may be questioning our basketball team a little bit. To come in, basically on the road, and play against Rutgers in their backyard and to win by 20, is a huge win."

Florida improves to 8-1 on the season. The Gators will return to the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on Thursday evening to face UNC-Wilmington. Tip-off is as at 7:00.
