Friday April 7, 2006M. Basketball Celebrate National Championship At O'Dome

Gainesville, FL

The University of Florida Men’s Basketball team returned to the Stephen C. O’Connell Center for the first time since winning the 2006 National Championship earlier this week. The Gators were greeted with thunderous applause from a crowd of 10,406.

Highlighting the evening’s events was the unveiling of the court used at the Final Four, which will be installed in the O’Connell Center next season.  Albert and Alberta also unveiled the 2006 National Championship banner.

Video highlights from the regular season and a replay of the One Shinning Moment segment shown during the CBS telecast of the national championship game were shown on a large screen. Hosts Mick Hubert and Mark Wise interviewed players on stage and head coach Billy Donovan was presented with the Siemen’s National Championship Trophy as part of the festivities.

The Dazzlers, cheerleaders and pep band all perform to help the Gators celebrate the first basketball national title in school history. The Gators finished the season with a 33-6 mark, setting a school record for wins, while becoming the first team in the state of Florida to win a national title in men's basketball.
