A crowd of 7,000 welcomed the 2006 NCAA Champion Gator basketball team home early Tuesday afternoon at the Gainesville Raceway. The University of Florida team returned to Gainesville Tuesday after claiming the program's first NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Monday evening in Indianapolis, Ind.

A roar of approval came from the crowd when the buses containing the Florida team and coaches came into view at the far end of the track. The UF team and coaches were greeted by cheers and signs by the fans. UF Head Coach Billy Donovan spoke to the crowd and the team members also had an opportunity to voice their thanks to the Gator fans.

Fans will also have a chance to celebrate with the Gator basketball team Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m. in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Fans can enjoy video highlights, the Gator band and cheerleaders. Coach Donovan will also address the crowd. Further details for Friday's event will be available later this week.
