The men's basketball team is a third seed in the NCAA Tournament and will play 14th seed South Alabama in Jacksonville Thursday. The Gators secured the #3 seed in the Minneapolis bracket after winning their second consecutive SEC Tournament Championship Sunday with a 49-47 win over South Carolina.

South Alabama is coached by former Gator assistant head coach John Pelphrey, now in his fourth season with the Jaguars. South Alabama finished the regular season in the Sun Belt at 24-6 and defeated Western Kentucky to with the Sun Belt Tournament Championship.
