Gainesville, FL

Game 12
Alabama 34, Florida 7
SEC Championship Game
December 4, 1999, Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Ga.
Attendance: 74,309

In a much anticipated rematch of their Oct. 2nd regular season game, which Alabama won 40-39 in overtime, the Crimson Tide and Florida Gators face each other in Atlanta for the SEC Championship, but this time Alabama comes out victorious with a dominating 34-7 win in front of 74,309 and an ABC national television audience at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

The game started out well as the Gators score on their opening possession on tailback Earnest Graham’s three-yard touchdown pass to tight end Erron Kinney. Graham’s pass to Kinney is set up by Bo Carroll’s 37-yard kickoff return and wide receiver Darrell Jackson’s 32-yard pass reception from quarterback Jesse Palmer.

However, Florida’s first possession would be it only offensive highlight of the night as Alabama’s defense holds the Gators to just 114 yards in total offense on the night and allows just six first downs, which are the lowest totals in those two categories in the Spurrier era. The Crimson Tide also intercepts four Florida passes – returning one for a touchdown, while two other lead to touchdowns. While using three quarterbacks (Palmer, Doug Johnson and Kevin McKinnon) Florida completes just eight passes for 83 yards on the night, both also Spurrier-era lows in those categories.

On defense the Gators give up 300 rushing yards and 162 yards in the air. Doing most of the damage on the night is Alabama wide receiver Freddie Milons. Milons rushes six times for 116 yards and one touchdown, a 77-yard run early in the fourth quarter that put Alabama ahead , 22-7. The Crimson Tide also use their form of the two-headed quarterback monster with Andrew Zow and Tyler Watts combining to complete 13 of 24 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown.

Alabama place-kicker Ryan Pflugner connects on three field goals including an SEC Championship Game record 49-yarder.
