Senior setter Angie McGinnis (Fraser, Mich.) handed out 45 assists and posted nine digs on Friday night to lead the No. 10 University of Florida volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-20, 30-17, 30-18) win over LSU in front of 2,715 fans at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

UF (19-1, 12-1 Southeastern Conference) hit .361 as a team in the victory, getting a match-high 14 kills from senior outside hitter Marcie Hampton (Gainesville, Fla.). Senior middle blocker Kisya Killingsworth (Deltona, Fla.) chipped in with 11 and senior opposite hitter Amber McCray (Longview, Texas) added 10 on the night.

“We had a great passing night and gave Angie good looks, which led to some impressive offensive numbers,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said. “I’m excited to see us pass like that against a great serving team like LSU. We were able to put some things together tonight on the defensive end that allowed us to click on offense.”

Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Elyse Cusack (Melrose, Fla.) reached the 20-dig mark for in her second-straight match, and the third in her last four outings, to lead a defensive charge that held LSU to .032 hitting on the night. Killingsworth and junior middle blocker Kelsey Bowers (Gainesville, Fla.) shared match-high honors with five blocks apiece as UF posted 11.0 as a team on Friday night.

The victory extended Florida’s SEC regular-season home winning streak to 23 matches, dating back to Nov. 11, 2004.

Florida jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opener on the strength of a kill by McCray and an ace by Killingsworth. Freshman outside hitter Callie Rivers (Winter Park, Fla.) and Bowers each tacked on a kill to make the score 7-3 before Hampton added three of her own to force an LSU timeout with the Gators on top by a count of 11-5. Hampton and Killingsworth both recorded kills after the break, and Florida’s lead reached 15-9 after Bowers and Rivers teamed up on a block. Two more kills from Killingsworth and one by Hampton propelled the Gators to a 21-15 lead before LSU called its second timeout of the game. Florida kept its momentum after break, using a pair of Bowers kills to take a 25-16 lead. Rivers added a pair of kills down the stretch to help the Gators reach game point, and Hampton finished off the 30-20 win with her seventh kill of the night. McGinnis handed out 19 assists to guide Florida to a sizzling .550 hitting percentage in the game. Hampton’s seven kills in the frame led all players, while Killingsworth chipped in with five.

UF again got off to a quick start in game two, using two McCray kills to assume a 4-1 lead. After LSU came back to tie the game at 7-7, the Orange and Blue ripped off a 5-0 run, fueled by a solo block from Hampton and Killingsworth’s ninth kill of the night, to take an 11-7 edge and force an LSU timeout. An ace by McGinnis shortly after the stoppage gave the Gators a 15-8 lead, and Bowers sent LSU into their second timeout of the stanza after her sixth kill of the night made the score 21-12 in Florida’s favor. McGinnis and Bowers double-teamed a block on the first rally after the break to give UF a 10-point lead, and the Gators’ lead reached as many as 12 before McCray killed their first game-point chance to send the home team into the break with a 30-17 win. McCray had a half-dozen kills in the frame to lead all players, and Florida limited LSU to .048 hitting behind a seven-dig effort from Cusack.

Florida battled back from an early deficit in game three, eventually taking a 13-8 lead on courtesy of a 9-1 run that featured a trio of blocks. LSU cut the lead to two points at 17-15 before McGinnis responded with consecutive kills to push the margin back up to four. A late-game 5-0 run helped the Gators take a 24-16 lead, and the edge didn’t dip below seven before Killingsworth and Rivers clinched the win with the Gators’ 11th block of the night. Killingsworth posted four total blocks in the frame to lead a charge that held LSU to a -.088 hitting percentage in the decisive game.

UF will complete its weekend on Sunday when it takes on Mississippi at the O’Connell Center. The Gators took a 3-0 win in Oxford earlier this season, and have won the last 26 matches in the series.
