Sophomore middle blocker Kisya Killingsworth (Deltona, Fla.) set career highs with 16.5 points and nine blocks as the No. 6 University of Florida volleyball team defeated Florida State 3-0 (30-20, 30-23, 30-16) in front of 2,323 fans on Monday night at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. 

Killingsworth was just one block and one kill shy of recording the first triple double in Florida history, while senior outside hitter Jane Collymore (Englewood, Colo.) finished with a match-high 11 kills in leading Florida (10-1) to its 230th straight win over an unranked opponent. The Gators out-hit the Seminoles .333 to .016 and also finished with more team blocks (13.0-7.0), kills (49-30) and assists (48-27). Florida has now beaten Florida State (2-6) 14 consecutive times and has won 27 straight matches against teams from the state of Florida.

Florida beat the Seminoles with a wide-array of players as four different Gators recorded at least 10.0 points and six finished with at least eight kills.

“The bottom line is that we had four players in double figures in points in a three-game match,” Florida coach Mary Wise said. “That’s great production and that’s how you win matches.”

Sophomore setter Angie McGinnis (Fraser, Mich.) fared well as she had 42 assists, seven digs, four kills and a service ace, while sophomore outside hitter Marcie Hampton (Gainesville, Fla.) added a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.

Junior defensive specialist Rhian Davis (Austin, Texas) had a solid serving night and also finished with a season high 15 digs, while sophomore opposite hitter Amber McCray (Longview, Texas) added eight kills on 12 swings and a pair of solo blocks.

Florida used an 8-0 run early on in the opening game to take control before eventually claiming the opening game 30-20. After FSU scored three straight points to tie the game at 7-7, the Gators reeled off eight consecutive points to build a 15-8 lead. Davis fueled the run with her serve, which included an ace on UF’s 15th point. The Seminoles fought back within five at 24-19, but the Gators promptly tallied the next four points, three coming behind the serve of Davis. Florida closed out the game after a Florida State service error. The Gators out-hit FSU .355 to -.049 in the game with McCray totaling five kills on .667 hitting. Senior libero Rachel Engel (Littleton, Colo.) and Davis paced UF with five digs in the game.

The second game was closer than the first, but ended with Florida scoring six of the final eight points in a 30-23 win. The game was close most of the way with the two teams trading points back and forth. The Gators claimed their largest lead at 22-17, but following a Florida State timeout, the Seminoles crawled back, eventually coming within a pair at 24-22. The Gators called a timeout of their own and responded with two straight points followed by a Seminole tally. Florida then struck with four straight points to close the match behind the serve of Hampton as she picked up the final point with an ace. The Gators out-hit Florida State .333-.225 in the game and Florida picked up 5.0 total blocks with Killingsworth recording two solos and two assists. McGinnis led UF in both kills and digs in the game with four and five, respectively.

The Gators dominated the final game as Florida scored the first seven points before breezing to a 30-16 win. After a kill from Killingsworth to open the game, Hampton served six straight points to make it 7-0 UF. The Gators ran the score to 11-1 and later 18-4 and the Seminoles never got closer than 10 the rest of the way. The Gators hit .317 in the game to -.116 for Florida State and totaled 5.0 blocks. Killingsworth again picked up four with two solos and two assists, while Collymore paced UF with six kills and Engel added eight digs.

Florida will return to action for the opening of Southeastern Conference play when the Gators travel to Mississippi State and Mississippi this weekend. The Gators will take on the Bulldogs at 8 p.m. (ET) Friday, Sept. 23 and Mississippi at 2:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Sept. 25. Both matches will be carried live on WRUF-AM 850 and www.GatorZone.com.
