PRE-AUDITION PREP CLASSES

Prep Classes are designed to help prepare you for the audition process as well as the dance material and style that will be performed by Dazzlers. These classes are not mandatory but are highly encouraged and will include a question and answer session with the Dazzlers’ coordinator. Anyone high school age or older are able to participate. Participants may register online or the day of with cash only.

Cost: $15 per session (cash only if registering the day of)

Conditional Auditions

The purpose of the conditional auditions is to provide an opportunity for non-eligible individuals to gain experience in dance as well potential audition processes. Anyone currently in high school or college may participate in the audition process if not eligible or interested in currently making the Dazzlers team. This includes anyone of high school age, current college students not attending the University of Florida, and those not interested in auditioning for the Dazzlers but another team. Participants will be given numbers indicating they are not eligible for selection to the final team, but will be allowed to participate in the audition process and be cut as if they were auditioning. Individuals participating in auditions in this manner will not be told if they would have made the final team. All waivers and applications, as well as cost, still apply.

Composition

More than 100 applicants audition each year for the team. The final team is made up of 18 to 22 dancers. Potential returning members must audition each year and are not guaranteed a spot on the team. A returning member’s commitment, effort and performance throughout the previous year will affect their eligibility to return to the squad.

Dance and Performance Ability

All Dazzlers are expected to perform with the highest level of dance technique. Members must be able to learn choreography quickly and memorize several routines at a time. Dancers must concentrate on sharpness, body placement, technique and coordination without sacrificing energy or style. All Dazzlers must show a consistent, captivating performance that is defined by court appeal, enthusiasm and overall performance value.

The Dazzlers perform a wide range of dance styles and various aspects will be evaluated in the audition process. A strong emphasis in dance technique will be highlighted and include double and triple turns, a la second turns, leaps, and kicks. HipHop and Pom routines are common for Dazzlers to perform and will also be highlighted during the audition process.

Before Auditioning, Please be aware of the Dazzlers Summer Commitment:

• Dazzlers are expected to learn approximately 40 routines each season. All sideline routines, cheers and school routines included in DVD format must be memorized perfectly by the first practice.
• New members are required to be in Gainesville in June for their new member physical.
• All Dazzlers must be in Gainesville at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the fall semester to attend Two-A-Days.
