Career Highlights:

The first Gator since Megan Bush (2010) to hit two homers in one inning, as Castro did so against Ole Miss her freshman season in 2012, tying a single-game school record…Had a school-record tying seven RBI in a single game, including six RBI in one inning, against the Ole Miss Rebels April 8, 2012…Tied a program record with four walks in a game on two occasions as a junior (3/26/14 at UCF, 3/30/14 at Tennessee).

 

As a Junior (2014): Named to the 2014 SEC Academic Honor Roll…Appeared in 61 games, with 53 starts…Led the squad with 35 starts in right field…Batted .287 with 35 hits, 26 runs scored and 30 RBI… Hit a career-best eight home runs and led the team with a .514 on-base percentage… Set a career high with three hits Feb. 16 vs. Minnesota at the Easton Desert Classic in Las Vegas…Tied that mark with three hits on June 3 vs. Alabama as UF clinched its first national championship…Recorded a career-best five-game hitting streak Feb. 8-14, spanning the Gators’ final three games at the USF Wilson-DeMarini Tournament and their first two contests at the Easton Desert Classic…Hit her first two home runs during a doubleheader against Maryland and Radford on March 2 during the final day of the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Orlando…Slugged a grand slam March 22 during Florida’s win over Alabama…Continued her clutch performances when she provided the winning runs on April 9 at Florida State with a two-run pinch-hit home run off All-American Lacey Waldrop…Knocked three of her six doubles on the season during the NCAA Tournament (May 17 vs. Stetson, May 28 vs. Baylor, June 3 vs. Alabama)…Batted a team-best .556 (5x9) during the Gators’ five games at the Women’s College World Series…Had three hits (3x4) with two runs scored, a home run and two RBI on May 30 as Florida defeated No. 1 seed Oregon to stay in the winner’s bracket at the WCWS…Tied for the team lead (Schwarz) with 13 hit-by-pitches…Showed improved patience at the plate, as her 44 walks were more than she drew during her first two years combined (40)…Earned a career-best four free passes on two occasions (March 26 at UCF, March 30 at Tennessee)…Played well defensively as she was perfect on 30 chances in the outfield, including a career-best four putouts in the WCWS finale against the Crimson Tide.

 

As a Sophomore (2013): Played in 61 of Florida’s 67 games her sophomore season in 2013, including 25 starts, primarily as Florida’s designated player…Additionally very successful off the bench as a pinch hitter for the Orange and Blue, proven with two pinch hit grand slams during UF’s 2013 SEC regular-season and tournament title runs…Provided a spark as the Gators advanced to their fifth WCWS…Owned two of UF’s 11 grand slams – one coming against Arizona in UF’s season-opening tournament at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., and the other at Auburn March 8…Batted .227 with 20 hits, 21 RBI, six homers and two doubles on the season…Also drew 24 walks for the Gators…Registered two multiple-hit games and five multiple-RBI games for the Orange and Blue…Turned in a four-game hit streak and eight-game reached-base streak during the campaign…Knocked in the game-winning RBI once on the season for the Orange and Blue…Had a career-tying four at-bats twice during 2013 against UNC Wilmington and Charleston Southern…Went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, a career-tying two homers and a walk against FAMU in the University of Florida’s home-hosted March tournament…Was perfect at the plate against Arizona, Auburn, Longwood, Georgia and against Nebraska in her first Women’s College World Series, where she drove in one of UF’s nine runs in the school-record 15-inning game against the Cornhuskers in Oklahoma City…Her multiple RBI contests came against Arizona (4), Auburn (4) and USC Upstate (2), while she had two hits each against FAMU and UNC-Wilmington…Was 1-for-3 in the NCAA Tournament for UF (.333 clip) and 3-for-6 (.500) for the Gators in the postseason as a whole, including the SEC Tournament.

 

As a Freshman (2012): Named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll…Played in 42 games her freshman season as a Gator, starting 33 of those contests in the designated player position after enduring an injury in fall 2011…Florida’s go-to pinch hitter when not in the lineup…Accounted for a school-record tying seven RBI in UF’s series finale against Ole Miss at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium April 8, where she hit two homers in one inning – the first Gator to do so since Megan Bush in 2010…Castro smashed one of UF’s three grand slams on the season, along with a two-run shot, in the third inning of the contest for six RBI, while walking in her seventh RBI of the game in the fourth inning of the series finale with the Rebels…Her two homers in one game – let alone one inning – also tied a school record…Castro’s seven RBI were the most in a game for a single player in the SEC in 2012…Had a pinch hit home run in extra innings (8th) against Tennessee in the SEC Tournament semifinals that sent Florida to the SEC Tournament Championship Game for just the fifth time in program history and gave UF head coach Tim Walton his 500th career victory…Was one of just 14 players in the SEC to hit a grand slam in 2012…Finished the season with a .207 batting clip, had 19 hits, one double, six homers and knocked in 20 RBI…Ranked fifth on the team in RBI her first year and registered a .413 slugging percentage, while drawing 16 walks for a .324 on-base percentage…Had four multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games on the season…Strung together a season-long four-game hit streak from March 25 to March 31, along with a nine-game reached-base streak her freshman season…Had 15 RBI in 26 Southeastern Conference games, ranking fourth among freshmen in league play…Ranked second among all SEC freshmen in home runs, with five in conference play…Her first three RBI as a Gator came March 2 versus Eastern Michigan as a bases-loaded pinch hitter, when she sent a deep ball to right-center to clear the bases, but was only credited a single due to her limited running ability from her leg injury…Had a career-best two hits four times, including games against USF March 28, Ole Miss April 6 and 8 and FGCU May 19 in the NCAA Gainesville Regional…Scored a season-best three runs against Ole Miss April 8.

 

High School / Travel Ball: A third baseman for American Heritage…Played travel ball with the Gold Coast Hurricanes…The 2011 Class 3A Florida Player of the Year…One of 10 players in the country nominated for the 2011 MaxPreps National Softball Player of the Year Award…Named to the 2011 ESPN RISE Under Armour All-America game roster…Smacked 16 homers her senior season, drove in 22 RBI and racked up a .618 batting clip, while leading American Heritage to a 26-1 record and a No. 4 MaxPreps ranking…Helped lead the Patriots to back-to-back state championships her freshman and sophomore seasons in 2008 and 2009…A two-time Sun Sentinel Player of the Year...Castro had 44 RBI, 30 runs and 12 home runs her junior season with a .612 batting clip... She was named the Broward Class 3A Player of the Year in both 2008 and 2010 and picked up First Team All-County honors in 2009.
