Career Highlights:
Led all SEC freshmen and the entire Gators’ squad her freshman season with 10 sacrifice bunts.
As a Freshman (2012): Played in 60 games her freshman season as a Gator with 54 starts, mostly at second base and shortstop…Finished her first season on campus with a .241 batting clip, 27 hits in 112 at bats, 21 runs, five doubles, a triple, two stolen bases and 10 sacrifice bunts…Medina’s 10 sac bunts ranked her third overall in the SEC in sac bunts and first among all freshman…Stellar on defense, Medina helped turn seven of Florida’s 17 double plays throughout the 2012 season…Had nearly a third of UF’s sacrifice hits on the season (10 of the 35)…Had six multiple-hit performances her first year to go with one multiple-RBI game…Had a season-best three-game hit streak and a four-game reached-base streak…Tallied multiple hits against Michigan State, Washington, Gardner-Webb, South Carolina, FIU and Kentucky with perfect 2-for-2 games against Michigan State and South Carolina…Her multiple-RBI game came versus Ole Miss on April 7 with a two-RBI double that helped the Gators clinch the series against the Rebels…Had a season-best five putouts against both Arkansas and Tennessee, while also contributing five assists a total of three times against Florida State, LSU and Kentucky…Her three-game hit streak was from March 31 to April 4, where she had two hits in each of UF’s final two games versus Georgia to win the series, while helping the Gators to a win over Florida State in Tallahassee with a RBI double…Her first collegiate hit was against USF at UF’s season-opening tournament in Tampa, while her first RBI came in the form of a triple against No. 5 Washington at the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif….Medina drew a season-high three walks, a third of her season total, against FIU April 20.
High School / Travel Ball: A Downey High School product, Medina was a shortstop and utility player in high school…Played travel ball with the Worth Firecrackers, helping the Firecrackers to a third-place finish at 2009 ASA Nationals and back-to-back Canada Cup Championships in 2009 and 2010…The MaxPreps Player of the Week March 20, 2011…A 2011 First Team Press Telegram Softball Dream Team and All-SGVL pick, Medina hit .420 her senior season, drove in 33 RBI and scored 34 runs for Downey…Picked up First Team All-League honors for her high school conference, SGVL, in 2009 and was named a Second Team All-League selection in 2010…A two-time Softball Scholar Athlete Award winner and a three-time Golden Glove Award winner, Medina also owns a black belt in karate…Was named a Press Telegram Softball Dream Team Player in 2010, a Second Team Softball Dream Team selection in 2008…As a two-sport athlete in softball and tennis, Medina, also the varsity tennis captain, played her way to an undefeated record of 33-0 in doubles her junior season en route to the San Gabriel Valley League doubles championship title…Her doubles team took second in 2009 in the league tourney, as she picked up Press Telegram Tennis Dream Team Honorable Mention honors that year.
