The first Gator since Megan Bush (2010) to hit two homers in one inning, as Castro did so against Ole Miss her freshman season in 2012, tying a single-game school record…Had a school-record tying seven RBI in a single game, including six RBI in one inning, against the Ole Miss Rebels April 8, 2012.
As a Freshman (2012): Named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll…Played in 42 games her freshman season as a Gator, starting 33 of those contests in the designated player position after enduring an injury in fall 2011…Florida’s go-to pinch hitter when not in the lineup…Accounted for a school-record tying seven RBI in UF’s series finale against Ole Miss at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium April 8, where she hit two homers in one inning – the first Gator to do so since Megan Bush in 2010…Castro smashed one of UF’s three grand slams on the season, along with a two-run shot, in the third inning of the contest for six RBI, while walking in her seventh RBI of the game in the fourth inning of the series finale with the Rebels…Her two homers in one game – let alone one inning – also tied a school record…Castro’s seven RBI were the most in a game for a single player in the SEC in 2012…Had a pinch hit home run in extra innings (8th) against Tennessee in the SEC Tournament semifinals that sent Florida to the SEC Tournament Championship Game for just the fifth time in program history and gave UF head coach Tim Walton his 500th career victory…Was one of just 14 players in the SEC to hit a grand slam in 2012…Finished the season with a .207 batting clip, had 19 hits, one double, six homers and knocked in 20 RBI…Ranked fifth on the team in RBI her first year and registered a .413 slugging percentage, while drawing 16 walks for a .324 on-base percentage…Had four multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games on the season…Strung together a season-long four-game hit streak from March 25 to March 31, along with a nine-game reached-base streak her freshman season…Had 15 RBI in 26 Southeastern Conference games, ranking fourth among freshmen in league play…Ranked second among all SEC freshmen in home runs, with five in conference play…Her first three RBI as a Gator came March 2 versus Eastern Michigan as a bases-loaded pinch hitter, when she sent a deep ball to right-center to clear the bases, but was only credited a single due to her limited running ability from her leg injury…Had a career-best two hits four times, including games against USF March 28, Ole Miss April 6 and 8 and FGCU May 19 in the NCAA Gainesville Regional…Scored a season-best three runs against Ole Miss April 8.
High School / Travel Ball: A third baseman for American Heritage…Played travel ball with the Gold Coast Hurricanes…The 2011 Class 3A Florida Player of the Year…One of 10 players in the country nominated for the 2011 MaxPreps National Softball Player of the Year Award…Named to the 2011 ESPN RISE Under Armour All-America game roster…Smacked 16 homers her senior season, drove in 22 RBI and racked up a .618 batting clip, while leading American Heritage to a 26-1 record and a No. 4 MaxPreps ranking…Helped lead the Patriots to back-to-back state championships her freshman and sophomore seasons in 2008 and 2009…A two-time Sun Sentinel Player of the Year...Castro had 44 RBI, 30 runs and 12 home runs her junior season with a .612 batting clip... She was named the Broward Class 3A Player of the Year in both 2008 and 2010 and picked up First Team All-County honors in 2009.
