Joe Hight, 52, is in his second season as a volunteer coach with the University of Florida soccer team, where he will serve as the goalkeeper coach.
Hight was named a high school All-American in 1973 while with Hillcrest High School in Dallas, Texas, and was the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. Under-19 National Team at the 1974 CONCACAF Tournament. A member of the inaugural varsity soccer team at Southern Methodist University, Hight was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Mustangs. He was named to the 1978 All-Midwest first- and Senior Bowl teams. After college he was drafted and signed with the Los Angeles Skyhawks of the American Soccer League, playing the 1979 and 1980 seasons.
Hight received his bachelor’s degree in anthropology from SMU in 1982. He was the Mustang's volunteer goalkeeping coach from 1983-95. He currently works for ARAMARK, serving as the Sun Terrace at Shands Location Manager of Gator Dining.
He and his wife, Cynthia, have a son, Reese (15).
