1993 NCAA CHAMPIONS

June 2-5, 1993
Champions Golf Course
University of Kentucky
Lexington, Kent.

Overcoming a two-shot deficit with two holes remaining, the Gators captured their third team title by one stroke at the 96th Annual NCAA Championships. UF, which shot a final round 283 for a total of seven-under par 1,145, played par golf on the two most difficult holes on the course to grab the title. Georgia Tech finished runner-up with a six-under par 1,146 and North Carolina placed third at 1,147. The one stroke victory was the closest margin in the NCAA Championships since 1984.

Individually, junior Guy Hill was the Gators' top finisher, firing a final round thre-under par 69 to finish in a four-way tie for third with a tournament total of one-under par 287. Sophomore Chris Couch, who made a four-foot par putt on the 18th hole in the last round to clinch the team title, finished tied for seventh with an even-par 288. Sophomore Brad Lehmann, who fired a fourth-round 67, and junior Brian Gay tied for 19th, while senior John Pettit finished in a tie for 49th.
