Career Development

The Career Development part of Gator Life Skills is designed to assist all student-athletes with their career and life planning. Student-athletes may explore personal interest inventories and need assessments while gaining valuable leadership skills and interview techniques. The OSL also works in collaboration with the Career Resource Center (CRC) to provide student-athletes with the most current career related information and services.

Between the OSL’s Career Counselor and the CRC, services provided include career workshops, on-campus interviewing, cooperative educational work experience, help with decision-making, career planning, and job and internship search assistance. Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and explore career plans related to academic interests
  • Acquire career related work experiences
  • Develop strategies that ensure successful employment upon graduation
  • Participate in on-campus interviews and employer informational sessions

Explore Related Majors and Minor Possibilities
Begin to Build Resume, Personal Mission and Goal Statement
Attend Recruiter Roundtable
Attend CRC Summer Job Fair

Sophomore Year

  • One on one counseling to select your major
  • Discuss Academic Plan of Action
  • Attend College Career Fair
  • Attend Recruiter Roundtable
  • Conduct Company Visits
  • Attend Career Fairs Sponsored by the CRC
  • Attend CRC Summer Job Fair

Junior Year

  • Enroll in SDS 3340 – Career and Life Span Planning
  • Complete Interest & Work Style Inventories
  • Register with the CRC Gatorlink
  • Develop List of References
  • Attend Recruiter Roundtable
  • Attend CRC Career Expo
  • Utilize Gator Career Network
  • Research Practicum for Senior Year

Senior Year

  • One on One Career Counseling – Finish Resume
  • Complete Practice Interview
  • Recruiter Roundtable to Interview with Companies Recruiting Athletes
  • Attend CRC and College Career Fairs
  • Complete Practicum or Internship
  • Guided Full Job Search

The Gator Career Network

The Gator Career Network (GCN) consists of University of Florida alumni, boosters, former letter winners, and local, national, and international public and private corporations. The purpose of this service is to provide current and former UF student-athletes with networking resources, career choices, and employment opportunities in order to assist with either successful transition from college to career or with career changes.

The Gator Career Network, with the assistance and support of UF alumni and boosters, has established a strong association with industries, companies and professionals by providing the following programs and services to student-athletes.
