Northwestern Post-Game Quotes

Northwestern Head Coach Kelly Amonte-Hiller

Opening Statement:

We are very excited to be able to have the opportunity to play in the championship game tomorrow. I think Hopkins is a great team and they played a great game today. We were able to come out on top and we are really excited about that.

On quick turnaround between games

I think we are pretty used to this. We play a lot of Friday Sunday games and not a lot of teams do that. I think that our preparation throughout the season is very challenging. The travel that we have is always challenging. I think that it is good preparation and we have a pretty regimented schedule. Just watching the game tonight to see who wins and then getting ready mentally and physically.

On playing Ohio State or Florida

We are just so excited to be in the championship game, to have that opportunity is amazing. We will just wait to see what happens. I think they are both tremendous programs and we would love to play either team.

On unfinished business with Florida

I think Florida played a great game (during the regular season) and they deserved to win. To play in a championship game in a tournament setting is really special. We are focusing in on us. Florida is an amazing program, as is Ohio State. They played very strong against us as well and into overtime. Either team is going to be a very formidable opponent and we are really excited to be in this opportunity.

On playing a team for a second time

It is challenging. You have to think about some of the things that you did wrong and some of the things you want to do better and some of the things you did well and build on that. The turnaround is quick so you have to prepare for both teams and be ready for whoever you end up facing.

Northwestern Senior Attack Shannon Smith

On the overall game.

I think we really focused on everyone when they touched the ball to be a threat and I think we did a good job with that from the attack to the middies. I think we were moving off-ball, opening up the space for one another. We definitely dodged hard to create those fouls for the eight.

On the defense

I think it really exciting to see our defenders cause turnovers for us. It allows us to create a lot of fast breaks on the attack and really move the ball up the field. All of our defenders have great stick skills and tremendous speed so they get the ball up there really quickly in transition and help jump start our offense for us.

On remembering the regular-season game against Ohio State

Ohio State is a tremendous team that has great players. They are very well coached. They will never give up and they are very physical. They have some great attackers behind the net and their low defenders and have a great unit on defense. They work well together.

Northwestern Senior Defender Lacey Vigmostad

On the weather

I think we tried to not let the weather affect us whether it is rain or snow or 90 degrees. I think we went out with a game plan to play together and play hard. We just went out and had fun with it. Its great to play out here in Florida, so we just enjoyed it.

On finishing the game

We worked on that to prepare for this tournament. To be able to end the game, we obviously werent perfect today but I think we did a little bit better than we have done in the past. We are just going to build on that for tomorrow.

On playing Florida

I think they played an excellent game against us. They are a great team and always come out hard. It is always fun to play them but I think whatever opponent we are going to play, we are just going to go out hard. We are excited to be in that [championship] game.

Johns Hopkins Post-Game Quotes

Johns Hopkins Head Coach Janine Tucker

Opening Statement:

What a game. It is always an amazing game against Northwestern. We had very spirited competition. I think they are very well coached and very athletic. Im excited it was a great game to watch, but to be honest with you I think that we didnt really capitalize on a few things. There were some turnovers that really hurt us, and that to me was the ball game. When its a tight game like that, you have to take better care of the ball. Thats something we wanted to do. We wanted to shoot a little bit better, take better care of the ball, all in order to make sure that we capitalized on some of their mistakes. Im not sure that we did that as well as we needed to.

On advantage for Ohio State or Florida

I think that Florida may have a little bit of an advantage, only because they are playing at their home field. Theyre a great team, as well. Something that is pretty awesome about our conference is that on any given day, anybody can step up and beat anybody. You better really prepare for each other. Both Ohio State and Florida have tremendous athletes, they are very well coached and I think youre going to see another great game. That is something that the ALC has provided all season long; very competitive and outstanding games among conference play.

On attitude playing Northwestern

We love playing Northwestern. If you want to be one of the big boys, you better play the big boys, and we choose to play a very strong schedule for this very reason. For our team, the Blue Jays, we have been in every single game. Every game has been exciting to watch. Every game has been very competitive, and we are right in there. Its easy to pad your schedule and play teams that arent as challenging, but we love to play Northwestern. We love to play the top teams.

John Hopkins Senior Defender Alyssa Kildare

On difference between the regular-season game and today

I would say that both games were great games. Both scores were relatively close. I think that we did a better job today by not letting them get the six goal lead cushion that they (Northwestern) had, and making it a harder climb for us. Every game is a competitive game. I think that may be the only difference, but other than that, we love playing them. Theyre a great team.

On playing Northwestern

I think that it is always physical, very fast, and we love it. We rise to the big games. We love playing against the big dogs, like Coach Tucker said. Its just always so competitive, and so much fun. We love it.
