Johns Hopkins 13, Penn State 12

Post-Game Quotes

Johns Hopkins Head Coach Janine Tucker

On pulling out the one goal win:

“I think it says a lot. It says a lot about the adjustments we made since the last time we played Penn State and that the girls were able to stay very calm. We’ve not only had a couple one-goal losses this season, but we’ve had a couple one-goal wins. So we were able to really draw from the one-goal wins and learn a lot of the things we needed to learn from those losses. We knew Penn State was going to play until the very end. It was just a really great game.”

On big saves:

“Yes, yes! Huge! And (they were) momentum swinging saves because that propelled us to stick some of the shots we needed to stick. So, they were really huge.”

On stalling in the final minutes:

“It’s extremely exciting. We actually are really very confident in our stall; we do a really nice job. But also, there is a little bit of hyperventilating going on, there’s a lot of excitement, but also it’s a tremendous amount of pressure on the kids. We have a lot of girls out there that do really embrace handling that pressure and they were going to keep possession of that ball.”

On playing Northwestern:

“We love it. To be honest with you, we’ve been in every conference game and we’d be thrilled to play anybody at this point. They’re a great team to play. We had an excellent game against them as well in the regular season and came up just a couple of goals short. So we are very excited for tomorrow.”

On what makes Northwestern a difficult program to play:

“I think they are extremely well coached and are extremely athletic. And they really know how to use their athleticism and that’s something where you have to really prepare to keep it a game or certainly beat Northwester. And that’s something that we don’t take lightly at all.”

Johns Hopkins Sophomore Midfielder Taylor D’Amore

On facing Northwestern:

“I think it’s just another conference game that we play opposed to the first time. To have another opportunity to go out and play them is what we’re looking forward to. We got the win today and that’s the next step for us.”

On pulling out today’s game:

“I think today we are getting closer and closer to playing a complete game for us. We have a bunch of seniors and our attacks are all finally starting to gel. That’s pretty much it; just play together and pull it out.”

Penn State Head Coach Missy Doherty

On the game:

“I thought the game reflected our season. We fought hard but came up one goal short. The loss is disappointing but I think we have had some strong wins this season. I hope that those wins pan out when it comes NCAA time.”
