On the way from College Station to Dallas, the Florida soccer team’s bus broke down off Interstate 45.

The day before, the Gators had defeated the No. 9 Aggies 1-0 in overtime and the team was en route to play No. 20 Southern Methodist the next day.

While the players waited for a mechanic to arrived, Coach Becky Burleigh went to the nearby Texas Rose Restaurant & Club to see about getting her team something to eat.

It was closed.

Burleigh, however, talked the owner into opening the kitchen and letting the coach take control. She made hamburgers, grilled cheese and chicken sandwiches for the UF players, who later entertained themselves during the four-hour wait with some country line dancing.

The team made it to Dallas that night and defeated SMU the next day on a Danielle Fotopoulous (an SMU transfer) goal in overtime.
