Brian Craig returns for his second season as assistant golf coach, after playing under head coach Buddy Alexander from 1988-1992. Craig returned to Gainesville to help coach the Gators in 1997, helping the team to a tie for fourth place in the SEC and a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championships last season.

Prior to returning to Gainesville, Craig played professionally on several Mini Tours. He ended the 1996 season ranked 15th on the money list on the Golden Bear Tour. Craig competed in the 1994 U.S. Open and placed sixth in the 1994 Jamaican Open. He also won the 1995 Northwoods Classic on the PowerBilt Tour and one event on the Future Majorz Tour in 1996. He finished 11th on the money list on the Powerbilt Tour in 1995.

He replaced Nicky Goetze, who was named the head coach at the University of Texas El Paso in September, 1997.

Craig’s responsibilities include coordinating the Gator Golf Camps as well as working with players in practice and helping with recruiting.

"We are very fortunate to have someone capable, like Brian, to step in and not miss a beat," said Alexander. "He has a lot of enthusiasm and experience as a player and will make a great coach."

Craig, 28, graduated with honors in 1992 from the University of Florida in economics. In 1992, he was named to the Golf Coaches’ Association All-Academic team and was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, ending his UF career ranked 26th in all-time rounds played at Florida (64). He was a member of the both the 1992 SEC and East Regional Championship teams. His best finish as a Gator was a fourth-place finish at the 1991 Gator Invitational. He also ranks 18th in UF school history with seven top-20 finishes and 15th with five top-10 finishes.

Craig was an accomplished amateur and junior golfer. He was the sixth low amateur in the 1990 Carolinas Open and took sixth place in the 1990 Amateur at Brick Landing. He also tied for 15th at the 1990 Southern Amateur and advanced to the semifinals in the 1987 North Carolina Amateur Championships. As a junior golfer, Craig won the 1984 and 1986 North Carolina PGA Junior Championship. He also won the 1984 Southern Golf Association Junior Championship and North/South Junior Championship.

Born August 20, 1969, Craig is a native of Gastonia, N.C.
