what they’re saying…

“Florida coach Will Muschamp didn't shy away from calling Sturgis the best kicker in college football, and Sturgis' numbers certainly warrant that praise. He has great range, but is equally clutch on the pressure kicks. He's made 23-of-27 field goals this season and has six field goals of 50 yards or longer in the past two seasons.” (12/28/12)
Chris Low, ESPN.com

(After the Florida State win): “He’s outstanding. You fake a field goal and you really question yourself, because you know you probably just left three points out there.” (11/25/12)
Will Muschamp, UF Head Coach

“My confidence in him is through the roof. He's outstanding. We're trying to find an extra year of eligibility.” (11/18/12)
Will Muschamp, UF Head Coach

“Caleb’s on-the-field accomplishments speak for themselves. I think he’s the best placekicker in the country. He’s very accurate, very dependable and he’s got an explosive leg. He’s an outstanding young man who has graduated, too.” (11/16/12)
Will Muschamp, UF Head Coach

“There’s no question he’s a game-changer for us.” (11/6/12)
Will Muschamp, UF Head Coach

"He's very accurate and very dependable. He never gets shook. He just lines up and does his job. ... In my two years as head coach, to have that opportunity to have a guy like him has just been a relief." (10/26/12)
Will Muschamp, UF Head Coach

(After the South Carolina game): “When you play like we do, you better be good on special teams and you better have good specialists, You better have a punter who can flip the field, coverage units who can handle that, and you better have a good field-goal kicker. I have tremendous confidence in both those guys. I wouldn’t trade them for anybody.” (10/22/12)
Will Muschamp, UF Head Coach

Will Muschamp, UF Head Coach

Will Muschamp, UF Head Coach

“The amount of confidence we have in Caleb is just amazing. He and I are in the same graduate program and have gotten to know each other very well. We go through a lot of the same things, so I have 100 percent support for him any time he goes on the field. I am not even worried, not even taking a second look hoping it’s going in. I know it’s going in with Caleb.” (9/17/11)

Dan Wenger, former UF offensive lineman

“Just to know that you feel good and comfortable when he walks on the field, you feel very comfortable when he goes to kick a field goal. Caleb has been outstanding for us. Tonight he had a lot of opportunities. He’s a guy that gives me a huge comfort level, to know that when we hit the 35-yard line we’re going to get some points.” (9/17/11)

Will Muschamp, UF Head Coach

“Caleb Sturgis has an explosive leg, the best of which we’ve not seen yet.” (7/31/10)

Buddy Martin, former GatorCountry.com writer

"I couldn't do what he does. I couldn't go out there when everyone's screaming and all eyes are on you. I respect him a lot.” (10/22/09)

Riley Cooper, former UF wide receiver, current Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver

"He pounds the ball. Sturgis has been hitting the ball good. I have a lot of confidence, obviously, to have Sturgis go win the game for us." (10/22/09)

Urban Meyer, former UF Head Coach

"When his foot hits the ball, it sounds different than most other kickers.” (8/15/08)

Urban Meyer, former UF Head Coach

“He’s got the strongest leg I’ve ever seen. I had never been at any camps with him but I had heard he was good. He definitely is. I’d say he was one of the top two or three kickers in the country this year.” (1/4/08)

Carson Wiggs, former Purdue and current NFL kicker and punter

“Caleb wants to be the best. He’s got that God given ability and unlike a lot of people who have the potential, but don’t work at it hard enough- he does. He’s a rare breed that has the ability and the drive and the want to really go as far as he wants to. He’s so competitive that he doesn’t allow himself to think that he could ever miss. He’s like a star player at the end of a basketball.” (6/11/06)
